FAQ

Q. How long have you been a photographer?

A. Let’s just say for life. My dad was a photographer so I grew up around cameras, in and around the darkroom. I received my own camera when I was about 12 and had my first piece published when I was 14.

Q. What do you shoot with?

A. I shoot with my heart and my eye. My current camera is a Nikon D700.

Q. How do I purchase one of your Fine Art Photographs?

A. Contact me directly at 203-430-7030 or email fmcm38@comcast.net or visit my Fine Art WebsiteFollow me on FACEBOOK, or TWITTER to receive news about upcoming shows.

Q. How are your Fine Art Photographs printed and framed?

A. Select images are printed in small editions on fine art or museum quality paper with the Giclee method. Custom framing is available. Other images are printed as canvas gallery wraps. No framing is necessary on a canvas gallery wrap.

Q. What else do you photograph besides weddings, portraits and events?

A.  Again, let’s just say life. My camera is a permanent extension of my eye and I take it everywhere I go. There is not a day or a moment that I don’t think about how to photograph something. In addition to always working on my abstract artwork I am currently working on 2 grant projects with the hopes of producing social commentary books.

ABOUT WEDDINGS

Q. How long have you been photographing weddings?

A.I shot my first weddings a looong time ago. Then my photo career took me in a different direction into the studio shooting for ad agencies, book publishers and fashion catalogs. I now shoot a limited number of weddings per year. Contact me for more info.

Q. Wow – you charge $3,500.00 to shoot a wedding, isn’t that a lot of money to make in one day?

A. Well, I guess it would be if  I made all of that for one day. Shooting a wedding isn’t only about showing up on the wedding day and shooting for 8 hours. First I like to get to know my clients by spending a little time with them. That allows me to shoot their wedding their way. After the wedding shoot I spend many hours viewing and choosing the best photos, sometimes retouching a little spot here or a flyaway hair there. I make sure each and every file is optimized for printing. I also shoot every wedding with a 2nd photographer and of course they are paid for their time and expertise. We can’t forget about the cost of equipment, insurance, taxes etc…. So, I make just a regular amount of money, but I get to do it by doing something I love!

Q. Why should I purchase my prints through you when you are giving me a disc of the images?

A. I work on every image to make sure that when they are printed or used in your album they print just they way I envisioned them. I work only with professional custom color houses. If you take the files to a local drugstore printer they will not put the care into them I will. The files I supply to you are great for emailing, facebook and sharing with your friends. When you order custom prints through me the printed pieces will be shipped to me first so I can apply my own quality assurance before delivering them to you. After all the time and planning that went into your wedding, I want to make sure the prints will be as beautiful as your day was, capturing the memories for you forever.

Q. I don’t live in CT but want to work with you. Will you travel to any location?

A. Anywhere you want me to be I’ll go!

Q. Who or what is Studio38 Photography?

A. When I first went out on my own after working in another studio for many years I named my studio Studio38. I found that name didn’t represent me enough and clients who were looking for me online didn’t connect Studio38 to me. My studio is now simply called Fran McMullen Photography.
